The Danish Parliament puts Danish priorities on the EU agenda during the EU Presidency

During the Danish EU Presidency in 2025 the Danish Parliament will welcome parliamentarians from across Europe to Denmark. In various locations throughout the country, they will discuss current political issues and explore Danish solutions that may serve as inspiration for European policymaking.

During the second half of 2025, Denmark will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the Danish Parliament – the Folketing – will lead the parliamentary dimension of the presidency.

Through a series of conferences and meetings across Denmark, the Danish Parliament will host parliamentarians from all over Europe and highlight several key topics. The Presidium of the Danish Parliament has decided that part of the presidency will take place outside the capital, with a focus on showcasing Danish solutions to the rest of Europe.
The Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Søren Gade, states:

»The Danish Presidency comes at a time when Europe is facing significant challenges. The Danish Parliament will, among other things, highlight central topics such as the EU’s future enlargement, energy security, the protection of critical infrastructure, and the current geopolitical security situation, including the war in Ukraine. It has been a priority for the Presidium that the activities during the presidency are not confined to Christiansborg Palace and Copenhagen. Therefore, we will also travel around the country to demonstrate how local solutions can inspire European politics. By hosting meetings in Billund, we can visit Danish companies such as LEGO and KMC, which can showcase their expertise in digitalisation and sustainability.«

Themes chosen by the Standing Committees of the Danish Parliament

During the parliamentary dimension of the EU Presidency there are four fixed conferences. On top of that the country that chairs the presidency will host interparliamentary committee meetings, where the national parliament can highlight important themes and topics.

The Danish Parliament has chosen three central themes – climate and the environment, competitiveness, and digitalisation – which will be the focus of three thematic conferences.

»The standing committees of the Danish Parliament have played an active role in selecting themes for the conferences that are relevant both in Denmark and across Europe. We look forward to highlighting key Danish strengths and creating a forum for fruitful discussions on the future of Europe,« says Søren Gade, the Speaker of the Danish Parliament.

Denmark as a source of Inspiration

With conferences held both in the capital and in Billund, the Danish Parliament aims to demonstrate how local solutions can inspire European policymaking.

»The Danish EU Presidency provides a unique opportunity to present Danish priorities and solutions to the rest of Europe through our visits to companies in Billund and Brande, which are frontrunners in areas such as sustainability and innovation,« says Søren Gade, the Speaker of the Danish Parliament.
